See this child to the right---this was quite possibly the last time he did that much in the kitchen.(Click on the photo to see how adorable he could be). Now don't get me wrong, he now makes a mean omelette, butttttttt, when it comes to baking cookies let me let you in on a little story.
On Sunday, Spencer told us he needed to make cookies for work and he wanted to do this himself. Admirable quality, I'd say. But being a single young man in his own place he was short on baking supplies. So, he chose a recipe and we sent him home with premeasured ingredients, butter, bowl and zest of one orange. Tonight was bake the cookie night and guess what? Three text messages and twice as many phone calls and the cookies are sort of almost there! I said let the butter soften on the counter, he put it in the microwave; I gave explicit instructions, he complains about having to chop chocolate, and oh by the way what is a coarse chop? It just got better and better. But the best. He called to say his little hand mixer was jamming. I said if he had all the ingredients added he could just mix by hand. OK--WAIT FOR IT--he actually said what, do I have to stick my hands in the stuff. Julia just rolled over in her grave and Martha's clutching her chest ready for the big one. And last but not least-do they sell cookies sheets at Jewel cause the one I have only holds six cookies at once. I hope his co-workers appreciate all the work I, oops, he went to for this cookie exchange. Got to love him. I know I do-it's what makes Spencer, Spencer!
